Schmitz Family Farm
About Our Farm
Schmitz Family Farm is a family‑run operation in southern Indiana dedicated to growing exceptional, field‑ripened blackberries. What began as a simple love for cultivating quality fruit has grown into a focused blackberry program built on careful stewardship, sustainable practices, and a commitment to producing berries with outstanding flavor and consistency.
Our blackberry plantings are tended by hand — pruned, trellised, and harvested with care — to ensure every berry meets the standard our family is proud to share. As we expand toward wholesale production, we continue investing in improved growing methods that support long‑term plant health and reliable yields.
Beyond our blackberries, our farm produces a variety of goods that reflect the diversity and rhythm of our land. We raise Nigerian Dwarf goats known for their gentle temperament, gather free‑range eggs from hens that roam our pastures, and craft small‑batch jams made from our own berries. We also maintain row‑crop acreage of corn and soybeans, contributing to the agricultural heritage of our region and supporting a balanced, productive farm ecosystem.
Conservation is central to who we are. Nearly 60% of our land is enrolled in Indiana’s Classified Forest program, a long‑term commitment that protects wildlife habitat, strengthens soil and water health, and preserves the natural beauty of our property for future generations. This stewardship shapes every part of our farm — from the way we manage our woods to the care we give our crops.
At Schmitz Family Farm, our goal is simple: grow and create things worth sharing. Whether you’re enjoying our berries fresh from the field, stocking your pantry with our jams, or visiting the farm to meet our goats, we’re grateful for the chance to serve our community and fellow growers.
